Sometimes In this life we get bogged down by things we can or can’t do, I for one am very guilty of this for example someone had recently suggest that they would like to do the marathon relay and get a team together and before they had the words out of their mouth to ask me, I had filled a team of four other people for them.
This was merely because I hate walking or going for walks so the prospect of doing a walk, but a great speed really doesn’t thrill me at all if I’m honest, but deep down its because I don’t think I would be able to do it I’ve seen my mum and dad put them self through the training for it and I honestly could think of nothing worse to self-inflict on myself.
However if I had a little bit of faith I know that God would provide a way for me to be able to do it and this goes for everything in our lives the verse that always comes to mind when we talk about faith is Matthew 17vs 22 where Jesus was asked why couldn’t the disciples cast out and he said they lacked faith, he then goes on to say if you only had faith the size of a mustard seed then you would have been able to have cast out those demons.
Now I don’t know if you have ever seen a mustard seed but for comparison mustard seeds are only normally 1-2 mm in diameters. Ants are 3mm in length so 3 mustard seeds would equate to one ant that shows you how small it is. So that’s how little faith we must have to be able move mountains, so then I pose the question why can’t we…
Why can’t we go and achieve our goals why can’t we smash our goals why can’t I go and do a leg of a marathon because the only marathon I think I’d be able to do at the moment is a Star Wars one but yes, I think it’s because we lack faith that we don’t achieve what we want to achieve but how do we increase our faith I hear you say? Very simply we just rest in God’s faithfulness and cultivating a relationship with God.
There isn’t a moment in time where you think I’m going to stop breathing or I’m not going to be able to walk up these stairs or I’m not going to be able to read my text messages because it’s a given thing that all these things will happen until the day they don’t and that’s fair enough to say that could be tomorrow because that is very true but we have faith that tomorrow won’t be that day so why don’t we apply that sort of faith to every other situation in our lives. The saying dream believe achieve isn’t a new thing it’s been around for years in fact the bible says in Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done”. Given this is slightly different but when you reach out to you father in prayer he will grant you your hearts desires according to his will.
So that marathon may seem like a mountain to you but “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17 vs 20
